30-Day Cardiac Event Monitoring or, transtelephonic monitoring (TTM) as it is often called is most often used when a 24 to 72-hour Holter procedure fails to uncover a patient’s suspected transient cardiac episodes.
With Holter, we have up to 72 hours to catch and document transient conditions. Using event monitoring, these events can be captured and analyzed for up to 30 days using either a Post event or Loop event recorder.
The Loop (Pre/Post Event) recorder requires patients to wear two electrodes through which the monitor is constantly recording EKG data. When the “Record” button is pressed, the monitor continues to store two minutes of post-event EKG along with the two minutes of pre-event data, for a total of four minutes available for transmission to our receiving center.
The Post event recorder is a small card-style unit that patients wear around their neck on an adjustable lanyard throughout the enrollment. No adhesive electrodes are required; all EKG data is recorded using four metal feet on the back of the unit. When patients experience an event, the card is activated under their clothing by pressing the “Record” button located at the center. The data collected is strictly two minutes of post event EKG.
After recording an event, patients call our receiving center toll-free (available 24/7/365) to transmit their EKG data. Your patient will always speak to a live person before and after transmitting their event for analysis by a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), who can identify any life-threatening cardiac anomalies.
After-hours life-threatening events are handled as you direct for that particular patient. Routine (non-life-threatening) transmissions are faxed to the physician’s office, while critical events are handled accordingly. All captured events are documented with time/date stamped strips and a description of your patient’s ovservations.
DigiCardio currently offers the HEART AIDE family of cardiac event recorders from TZ Medical to simplify the recording of infrequent and elusive arrhythmias. These easy-to-operate recorders are easily programmable for silent/audible operation and allow for variations in the number of events and recording times.
By virtue of their simplicity, HEART AIDE units reduce the amount of time required to train patients which increases the likelihood of full compliance. |
